RSS feed not working

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Some of you may have noticed that the Bits and Pixels RSS feed is not working right now. I just wanted to let you know that I’m trying to find the problem, and will get it fixed as soon as possible. I think it might be a problem with the desktop blogging client that I bought recently, and which I used to post the last two posts (which coincidentally are the ones that have not been distributed via feed and email subscriptions). I am writing this post from the WordPress dashboard, so if it shows up in my feed I’ll know for sure it’s the desktop blogging client’s fault ;)

If it doesn’t show up in the feed, then I really don’t know what’s wrong, as I’ve had the feed validated with no problems. In this case I will have to contact Feedburner to see if they know what’s wrong, but hopefully I can get it fixed soon. Thanks for your patience!

Update: Okay, I don’t think it’s a problem with Ecto anymore. I’m pretty sure now that the problem lies with Feedburner. I have posted in their Google group, since I couldn’t find a contact form or email address, but hopefully they will respond soon. Does anyone know how to contact them directly?

New direction

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Sorry for the lack of updates lately – I’ve been having some problems with my internet connection.

It made me realize, though, that trying to come up with posts to write all the time is quite stressful, and decreases the fun of having a blog in the first place. I know that everyone says you have to post every day to have a successful blog, but it kind of defeats the object if blogging starts to become a chore.

So I have decided to not stress about it anymore, and just post when I have something interesting or helpful to say. This might mean less posts – although I’ve always tried to post interesting or helpful things, I won’t be actively trying to think them up anymore. So if you don’t want to check back often and would rather be notified when I update, you can subscribe to my RSS feed or subscribe via email.

Also, I was thinking of focusing a bit more on what this blog was originally going to be for: graphic resources, links, tutorials, downloads etc. for the cheaper Mac graphic programs like Pixelmator, VectorDesigner, ZeusDraw, Drawit, Gimp, and Inkscape.

But I will still post any interesting info I find about blogging, and any other pixelly subjects ;)

ZeusDraw review updated

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

My ZeusDraw review has been updated, as Robert Clair from Chromatic Bytes contacted me to let me know I was wrong about a couple of ZeusDraw’s features. Sorry Robert!

ZeusDraw can in fact open .EPS files, you just have to import them as .PDF files first and then convert them to objects. The color palette in the Apple Color Picker also works, the values in the steps column just have to be changed.

Layout change (more or less) complete

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I’ve added an About page, fixed the Credits and Contact pages, and have done some other behind-the-scenes stuff. Unfortunately the contact form isn’t aligned anymore, and I have no idea why! I had a look at the coding, but I don’t know anything about javascript or whatever was used to make it, so I contacted the author – hopefully he can help :P

Changed layout again…

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I changed my layout again, because my blog was taking ages to load and it seems my banner was too bright on some screens. Unfortunately now this blog is missing some stuff that it had before – I have now learnt the hard way to always make a backup before changing themes, and to make a list of all active plugins and widgets. I still have to fix the credit page, add an about page, and reinstall some plugins and scripts, but I’m way too tired to continue fixing it right now (I’m falling asleep on my keyboard :P ). So please excuse the mess, I’ll fix it all tomorrow!

In the meantime, I’d be really grateful if some of my readers could let me know if this blog is loading faster now – I’ve got such a stuffed up connection that I can’t really tell -_-

Speed problems

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

This blog is frustratingly slow to load lately – I’m looking for the problem and will fix it asap! I might also change the layout, or at least the banner, as it’s too bright on some screens. Hope I didn’t blind anyone!

Okay, so it was a little longer than two days…

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

…but I found so much useful stuff to add and great places to join that I got kinda sidetracked! :P I will be posting about them soon, so subscribe to my feed to not miss out!

Anyway, my new layout (theme from K2) is up and running – what do you think of it? I made a colourful banner because I was sick of the old look with all that black. I just hope it’s not too bright – on my Macbook Pro and my sister’s laptop it’s perfect, but on our Ubuntu desktop PC it kinda hurts the eyes ^_^’

I’ve still got to change the colours of the titles and links, but this theme is so different from the usual ones, and I can’t find the file to modify. I’ve checked the CSS files and the text colour specifications are nowhere to be found. I’ll read the guide as soon as I have time, but I think it looks okay for now.

Site announcement: changing layout

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Over the next day or two I’ll be changing my layout and moving things around, so please excuse any glitches, color clashes, or other random funny business that might ensue – I will get everything fixed as soon as possible ;)

ZeusDraw on MacZot

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

ZeusDraw, a vector drawing application, is on special this weekend at MacZot. At first glance it didn’t interest me much, but after watching the videos I was blown away by it’s brush and colour controls! Stay tuned for a full review ;)
